My Fitness Journey
In 2011, I was in the best shape I had ever been in. I started my first job as a part-time police officer and was determined to be physically fit.. it's kind of a necessity when you're in law enforcement. In 2013, I left the part-time job and opted to go full-time at the Sheriff's Office. I was still in relatively good shape despite the fact that I was working 6+ days a week, all different shifts, and operating on little to no sleep. In 2014, I suffered a severe concussion while off-duty and that sidelined me big time. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and "let myself go" since I couldn't workout due to constant headaches and dizziness.
In 2016, I decided I needed to lose weight for my wedding because who doesn't want to look amaaaazing in their dress? I purchased a gym membership for $41/month and was locked into a contract (over $500 per year, due to additional fees on top of that). I probably went to the gym a grand total of 10 times, if that. The gym is just not my thing. Our wedding came and went. I found myself looking back at the pictures and was very unhappy with what I saw. I saw an overweight girl who was "trapped" and who had lost a lot of confidence. I knew I needed to make a change. I had never given up on anything and I wasn't about to now.
In March of 2017, I noticed one of the other fire wives posting about her at-home workouts and her awesome results. I reached out to her and asked for more information. She told me that she was a Beachbody Coach and was doing the Beachbody on Demand workouts (think Netflix of workouts - seriously!). I opted for the 14 day free trial and was immediately hooked. Access to hundreds of workouts for $99/year... that I could do at home... on my own time... at my own pace? SIGN ME UP.
I've completed 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, Core De Force (all-time favorite program!!), Clean Week, and 22 Hard Corps. Although my nutrition isn't 100% on point yet, I have seen great results thus far. I'm stronger, toned, have more confidence, and know that I am doing something that will forever benefit me. I don't weigh myself because that number on the scale means nothing compared to how I feel. My clothes fit better, I have tons of energy, and overall... I'm happier!
Working out has become a type of therapy for me. It's my ME time. My time to unwind, clear my head, and sweat it out. If I have a bad day, I workout because I know I will feel better after. I go downstairs into my little home gym, crank up the music, and give it my all for at least 30 minutes each day.
I'm currently on day 4 of 80 Day Obsession and I'm loving every minute of it. The sore muscles are totally worth the outcome!
