Life After Loss

Image
Grief... is a real bitch some days. Just when you're having a great day and it seems like I finally have my ducks in a row again, GRIEF shows up out of nowhere. If you're completely lost and have no idea where this is going, read Man's Best Friend first. It has almost been 2 months since my world was turned upside down and I had to say goodbye to Lucy. I miss that dog SO FREAKING MUCH. So much. More than I ever thought possible. Some days are good and then some days I'm a mess. Some people says "She was just  a dog"... yeah, she was  a dog, but she was also so much more than that. She was a part of our family. She was my canine kid and she was always there by my side no matter what. We did welcome a new, sweet black lab pup into our family - Lily - and I am so excited to have her, but it's just not the same. Plus, starting back over from the puppy stage has been rough. I'll do a future blog to introduce Miss Lily. Lily! <3 How cute is this l...

80 Day Obsession - Week 3

Image
Week 3 of 80 Day Obsession is D-O-N-E! When I looked at the 80 Day Obsession Calendar (yes, this program comes with a calendar) and saw 3 sets/10 reps, I though "Yes! Same as last week"... boy was I wrong, haha. Yikes. This week we broke the moves down into blocks, so instead of doing the entire workout all the way through 3 times... we did block 1 and repeated it 3 times, block 2 repeated 3 times, etc. You get the point. Why is this so different? My muscles were screeeeaming. My arms and legs felt like jello and don't even get me started on the slider/ab moves. I didn't realize changing up the order of moves could completely change the intensity like that - loved the challenge! Workouts (3 sets of 10 reps - repeat) Day 15: Total Body Cardio Day 16: Booty Day 17: Cardio Core Day 18: Arms, Abs, & Ass Day 19: Legs Day 20: Cardio Flow Rest Day: Roll & Release I still find myself getting a little "intimidated" when I notice the length of the w...

80 Day Obsession - Week 2

Image
Week 2 of 80 Day Obsession is in the books, folks! This week was changed up a bit from the 2 sets/15 reps to 3 sets/10 reps, which means upping weights. I started to notice that the resistance bands (yellow, green, blue) were becoming too "easy" for me, so I purchased a new set on Amazon that included x-heavy and xx-heavy - LOVE them! Autumn and the crew usually double up on bands (i.e. green and blue), but I haven't totally mastered how to keep them in place yet... so basically to avoid 10 minutes of cussing at the bands, I just bought different ones with more resistance. Boom. Workouts (3 sets of 10 reps) Day 8: Total Body Cardio Day 9: Booty (Yessss!) Day 10: Cardio Core Day 11: Arms, Abs, & Ass Day 12: Legs (My favorite!) Day 13: Cardio Flow Day 14: Roll & Release Sundays are usually rest days, but since Saturday was St Patrick's Day and I didn't keep my nutrition on point I decided to do MMA Speed from Core de Force to have a more legit swe...

Man's Best Friend

I have contemplated on writing this post for awhile, but haven't been able to find the right time. This is something that has been weighing heavy on my heart since January 31, 2018. Loss is tough, but it is inevitable in all aspects of life unfortunately. Saying Hello In 2014, while on patrol, I came across a black lab puppy on the side of the road. He was the sweetest little guy and he somehow got out of his kennel. I snapped a picture of it and sent it to my boyfriend [now husband, Tony] at the time and jokingly asked if I could bring him home. Of course I got the "Absolutely not" reply. I found the little guys home and dropped him off. When I got home that night, Tony asked me where the puppy was and told me he was just kidding with his text. So... the search began for a puppy. When I moved in, Tony already had a basset hound named Blu. After a couple of searches, I came across a Craigslist ad for black lab puppies for $100. The owner said there were a few that had ...

80 Day Obsession - Week 1

Week 1 of 80 Day Obsession is complete! What a fun, yet extremely challenging week it was. The workouts are both mentally and physically challenging, which is probably why I love this program so much! Each day is a new workout and each day I feel myself getting a little bit stronger. Thank goodness Sunday's are rest days/stretching days because my muscles were screeeeaming - it hurt so good! Workouts Day 1: Total Body Cardio Day 2: Booty (Yessss!) Day 3: Cardio Core Day 4: Arms, Abs, & Ass Day 5: Legs (My favorite!) Day 6: Cardio Flow Day 7: Roll & Release The longest workouts were 60 minutes, which was a little challenging and intimidating at first just due to the length. I wake up at 0500 hours every morning to get my workout in, so there was no time to hit the snooze button when the alarm went off. I felt amazing after each workout and was full of energy. There's just something about cranking up the radio in the morning and crushing a sweat session that he...

My Fitness Journey

Image
In 2011, I was in the best shape I had ever been in. I started my first job as a part-time police officer and was determined to be physically fit.. it's kind of a necessity when you're in law enforcement. In 2013, I left the part-time job and opted to go full-time at the Sheriff's Office. I was still in relatively good shape despite the fact that I was working 6+ days a week, all different shifts, and operating on little to no sleep. In 2014, I suffered a severe concussion while off-duty and that sidelined me big time. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and "let myself go" since I couldn't workout due to constant headaches and dizziness. In 2016, I decided I needed to lose weight for my wedding because who doesn't want to look amaaaazing in their dress? I purchased a gym membership for $41/month and was locked into a contract (over $500 per year, due to additional fees on top of that). I probably went to the gym a grand total of 10 times, if that. The gy...
