80 Day Obsession - Week 12

Phase 3 is DONE!! Yes! If you've been following along as I've made my way through the 80 Day Obsession program from Beachbody, you know that Phase 3 was by far the toughest phase for me. The workouts were kicked up a notch and the moves were advanced. Like, way advanced. Okay, I'm exaggerating a little there, but it was tough. I was on the struggle bus every day, but I didn't skip a single workout. Nope, not even one. If for some reason I wasn't able to get my scheduled workout in for a day, you better believe I was doubling up the next day. Hello, challenge.

I had sore muscles just about every day in Phase 3. I don't know if it was because I upped my weights twice as much or if it was the different moves. Either way, I had all the sore muscles. I made a point to drink my chocolate flavored Recover every day throughout this phase. Unfortunately, I personally didn't see any results from that... I still had sore muscles. Oh well, it still tastes like hot cocoa so that's a win in my book! I will say, though, that I feel STRONGER after adding Recover into my regimen this phase.

Can we just take a minute to talk about Phase 3 - Cardio Flow? I mean, come on. I don't know what Autumn Calabrese (creator of 80 Day Obsession) was thinking when she decided it would be a good idea to do 8, EIGHT, rounds. Eight. What? I thought 4 reps, 2 rounds was brutal. Cardio Flow is a mentally and physically challenging workout in itself. You gradually add on moves (inchworms, spider push-ups, diamond jumps, flamingo, duck walk, gorilla, step-through, bear crawls, crabs, and Tmule to frogs) throughout the workout. It kind of seems like you're headed to the zoo with all of the animal-themed moves. Anyways, once you gradually add all of them on... you do 8 rounds all the way through, with each move. I can honestly say that I dreaded this workout every week. It's mentally and physically challenging. Your heart rate is through the roof, your legs are on fire, and there's sweat everywhere. But... it's so so worth it. The sense of accomplishment at the end is unreal. You are pushed out of your comfort zone and you have to go all in. Sure, you could cheat yourself and only do 2 rounds like in Phase 1 and Phase 2, but why? You aren't gaining anything. By Week 10, I was finally to the mindset of actually looking forward to Cardio Flow. I almost craved being pushed to the limit because I knew that I was capable of overcoming the obstacle in front of me. Moral of the story: JUST KEEP GOING!

Phase 3 - Week 4

What's Next?
75 days ago, I never thought I'd be able to complete this program. 80 days?? That seemed like an eternity and given my past "habits" of giving in and falling off the bandwagon, I seriously didn't think there was any possible way that I'd actually stick to this program. I figured I'd skip a workout here and there and essentially half ass it. I set a goal to finish this entire program. I promised I'd do 80 workouts in a row, according to the calendar provided for 80 Day Obsession. Sundays are considered rest days for the program, but I opted for "active" rest days, meaning that I'd do lighter workouts from different Beachbody programs (this added in a little variety once a week). My nutrition wasn't on point for this round of 80 Day Obsession, which is a little disappointing.. but I know that if I went all in with workouts and nutrition, I'd never finish. I knew that I would be overwhelming myself and taking on too much at once; it was almost an unrealistic goal. I knew that if I met my goal of doing every single workout, I could then do another round of the program to implement the nutrition factor (nutrition factor is a big component). With that, I do have plans to do the 80 Day Obsession program again. It was a fun program full of physical and mental challenges. I've learned so much these past few weeks and I've crushed the "you aren't strong enough for this"/"there's no way you'll actually stick this out" excuses. I AM strong. I CAN do whatever I set my mind to.

To be totally honest, 80 days is a long time. It's a big commitment. I'm the type of person that tends to get bored with workouts over time if there's no variety. I found myself getting bored in Phase 3, but I'm pretty sure that was because I was on the struggle bus the whole time. I struggled with lack of sleep during Phase 3 due to a change in work schedules and whatnot. Lack of sleep + working out = STRUGGLE BUS

Even though I plan on doing the 80 Day Obsession program again, I will be taking a break in between just to add more variety in. I will be doing my favorite Beachbody program, Core De Force. The Core De Force workouts are fun, they get my heart pumping, and they leave me feeling stronger every time. As a police officer, I think every female should go through this program because the moves can easily be utilized for self defense.

But... I am SO EXCITED for 80 Day Obsession Peak Week!! This is the final week of the program and it's made up of workouts from all 3 phases, super fun! It's a good way to show you just how strong you have become over the past 80 days. Let's do this!
