My WHY
"A strong woman looks a challenge in the eye and gives it a wink." - Gina Carey
| 2011 |
In 2014, I met my husband (Tony) and moved 45 minutes away from everything and everyone that I knew. Shortly after moving in with him, I suffered a severe concussion off duty. I was out of work for 2+ weeks. The concussion symptoms were overwhelming (vertigo, constant headache, nausea), so I spent most of my time on the couch watching TV or laying in bed. On my first day back to work, I put my pants on and they were too tight. I was frustrated, but remembered that I hadn’t worked out in weeks. The concussion symptoms continued on/off for the next year, so workouts didn’t happen.

The wedding came and went; I didn’t lose any weight and wasn’t using my gym
membership anymore. I was tired of wandering around aimlessly and not seeing any results. We were trying to start a family and weren’t having any luck, so I went to the doctor. Then it happened... the diagnosis - “You have PCOS (aka one of the leading causes of infertility) and losing weight will be difficult.” It felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I knew I was overweight, but now it was truly having a negative impact on my life.
I did tons of research (look up PCOS if you aren’t familiar with it). I decided that I would not be defined by PCOS. I decided to take my life back. I want to be a mom someday and if that means I need to work my ass off every single day to get healthy, I WILL. I'm not the type of person that just sits back and waits for something to happen, I go out and make it happen! [[Yes, I am aware that several people with PCOS are able to go on to have healthy children. For more on our journey to parenthood with PCOS, check out PCOS - The Beginning.]]
I signed up for Beachbody on Demand at-home workouts and haven’t looked back! After a few months of ENJOYING my workouts and seeing results, I decided to become a Coach. Being a Coach has kept me accountable because my goal is to inspire other women. Whether you are overweight, aren't comfortable in your own skin, need to boost your mood, want to be a part of something greater than yourself... I want to talk! I want to help you live a happier, healthier life. I want you to know that it is possible with hard word and determination. The moment you make yourself a priority, you will see positive changes. I actually look forward to working out every day, believe it or not. When I say these workout programs changed my life, I mean it. I have my confidence back. PCOS symptoms are in check; my doctor even gave me kudos! I’ve lost 25+ pounds and have kept it off. I am stronger, both mentally and physically.

Tough Love - Takeaway
If you take anything away from my WHY, let it be that you CAN overcome obstacles. With hard work and determination, you can climb whatever mountains are standing in your way. Set a goal, write it down, and then chase it! Don't stop until you reach it and then repeat that process all over again with a new goal. You got this. On days when you're feeling down or frustrated, remind yourself of where you started and how far you have come. Always know that there's someone out there cheering you on. STOP giving up on yourself and get off the pity bus. This is your time to shine. Nobody is going to do the work for you. Put your phone down and get off your ass! :)
